THE ART OF L1FE

"Fuck pain. Fuck heartbreak. I'm still in love with life." - Daniele Bolelli

THE NARROW WALKWAY

In the study of the Tao, we often talk about life as a path. The ancient sages describe it as a broad and level road, perfect for walking, because the basics of the Tao are simple and therefore easy to follow.

It is also possible to describe the Tao from a different perspective, where it resembles a narrow walkway on the face of a cliff. Such a path can be dangerous to those who are always fighting to get ahead. As they push and shove, squeezing their way through and walking close to the edge to pass others, they risk taking a misstep and falling off the cliff.

It is not so dangerous to those who are not bound by the insane drive to be competitive. They walk without the frantic rush, take the time to enjoy the spectacular view and demonstrate courtesy in stepping aside and letting others pass - all in perfect harmony and safety!

The Tao Today

Do you sometimes find yourself in a frantic rush? Are you pushing and shoving others in a contentious way? Are you struggling and taking risks that can lead to misstep? If so, you may be like the overly competitive ones on the narrow walkway. See if you can shift gears mentally. Take note of the wonderful and positive things in life all around you and remind yourself that nothing can be so important as to cause you to neglect the beauty of life and the graceful courtesies we can give to others.
