CONTENTMENT

Being content is the foundation of the Tao practice. One gains true wealth by realizing that one has enough. This is the basis of joy and the ultimate freedom from the obsession to accumulate and hoard.

Being content may not be easy in today’s world. It is a mind-set that does not fit with a consumer culture that stimulates bottomless desires and encourages ever more acquisitions. Everywhere we turn, we see billboards and flashing signs that try to convince us that we have a need for something. Once we believe these lies, we become driven to somehow make up for what we lack.

See through this illusion. Perceive the reality that exposes the lie. We came into this world with everything we need to do anything we need to do. We have talents and abilities. We have loved ones who support us and friends who will come to our aid. We have an understanding of the Tao and the potential to understand more. The truth that we are already blessed with incredible wealth naturally gives us the ultimate contentment.

The Tao Today

Let contentment be your spiritual foundation. Never pursue material wealth without having it as you basis. As you engage in your work today, realize that you do what you do because of the inherent joy in the process. When you have this joy, monetary rewards will come your way naturally, and you have already succeeded even before you start.
