INNER SILENCE
Silence is the time-tested way to connect with the Tao. It is not just the silence in your surroundings, but also silence in your internal being.
Inner silence can be difficult for those of us who are beset with endless mental chatter. Inwardly, we ask ourselves questions, second-guess ourselves and sometimes curse. Idle thoughts flit through the mind in any given moment, preventing us from finding peace.
An extended period of silence can be the source of anxiety. After a while, you may feel an intense need to break the silence. This is only temporary. As you remain in the practice, your inner silence will gradually become more natural and more profound.
At the deepest level of this silence, you can feel the Tao and connect with it easily. The connection has always been there, but the many distractions in your life made it difficult to access. Inner silence is the solution that helps you regain that access.
The Tao Today
When the mind talks too much, it ends up saying nothing meaningful. That is why we must guide it toward saying less and less, until it is no longer compelled to say anything at all. That is when we will hear the wordless communication of ultimate meaning in silent connection with the Tao.
